Diana Ross- Diana Ross Diana Ross- Diana Ross

    Features:

Diana Ross is the debut solo album for Diana Ross. It reached #19 in the USA (#1 R&B) and sold over 500,000 copies. The album was the ultimate test to see if the former Supremes frontwoman could make it as a solo act. With the help of the songwriting-producing team of Nickolas Ashford & Valerie Simpson, Ross turned out a successful album. Ross did extensive work with other producers before settling with Ashford & Simpson, including Johnny Bristol, producer of her final single with The Supremes, "Someday We'll Be Together". Bristol here produces "These Things Will Keep Me Loving You" (which was a UK hit when originally recorded by The Velvelettes); the rest of the LP is fully written and produced by Ashford & Simpson.

Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap: AC/DC Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap: AC/DC

    Features:

Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap is an album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC. It was the band's second internationally released studio album and the third to be released in Australia. All songs were written by Angus Young, Malcolm Young and Bon Scott. AC/DC began recording what would become Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap in January 1976 at Albert Studios with Harry Vanda and George Young (older brother of guitarists Malcolm and Angus) producing. In April, the band went on their first tour of the U.K. where "It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)" was released as a single. According to the book AC/DC: Maximum Rock & Roll, Vanda and Young traveled to the U.K. to record several songs with the band at Vineland Studios for a scheduled EP, which was eventually scrapped. One of these songs, "Love at First Feel," would surface on the international Dirty Deeds release while the others, "Carry Me Home" and "Dirty Eyes," would remain unreleased, the latter being reworked into "Whole Lotta Rosie" on 1977's Let There Be Rock. A song titled "I'm a Rebel" was recorded at Maschener Studios as well with music and lyrics written by Angus and Malcolm Young's older brother, Alex Young. This song was never released by AC/DC and remains in Albert Productions' vaults. German band Accept later released it as a single and named their second album after the song. In September, High Voltage was released in the United States but, hampered by visa problems and a disinterested Atlantic Records label in the United States, the band returned to Australia to finish their third album.

Fifteen: Colin James Fifteen: Colin James

    Features:

It would have been so easy to record a bunch of covers like Colin James has done with Robert Palmer’s `Sneakin Sally Through The Alley’, John Lennon’s `Jealous Guy’ and Fleetwood Mac’s `Oh Well’ and toss out one of those types of tribute albums that Rod Stewart’s been living off. Yet to his credit, James has off-set these tracks with a bunch of sizzling new releases that compare favourably to his cover credits. Co-produced with studio veteran Joe Hardy, James joins forces with the likes of Big Sugar’s Gordie Johnson and singer/songwriter Ron Sexsmith to produce a batch of R&B tracks that just ooze confidence. The arrangements are solid, guitar work is stunning and the vocals are crisp and melodic. What really works is that by recording a stunning cover like Fleetwood Mac’s `Oh Well’ and then following it up with original tracks like `I Need You Bad’, the infectious `I’m Diggin’ and first single; Stone Faith’, the comparisons between covers and originals are so complementary. Fifteen is an album which really shows off James’ prowess as a masterful recording artist. Not one weak track on the entire recording.

Gord's Gold: Gordon Lightfoot Gord's Gold: Gordon Lightfoot

    Features:

Gord's Gold is a compilation album released by Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot in 1975. It was the first Lightfoot compilation to feature music from his 1970s Reprise Records albums, and also includes re-recordings of his 1960s United Artists hits (tracks 1-10). This served to update the earlier recordings to the same style as his later work and gives the album a level of consistency often lacking in similar compilations. Lightfoot's reasons for re-recording the United Artists tracks were explained in the liner notes as being because "he doesn't like listening to his early work". Despite covering only the first decade of his career (and lacking one of his biggest hit singles, "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald", which was recorded the following year), Gord's Gold has remained the most commercially popular Lightfoot compilation.

Graceland 25th Anniversary: Paul Simon Graceland 25th Anniversary: Paul Simon

    Features:

Graceland is the seventh solo studio album by American singer-songwriter Paul Simon. Recorded in 1985 and 1986, Graceland features an eclectic mixture of musical styles, including pop, rock, a cappella, zydeco, isicathamiya, and mbaqanga. Simon created new compositions inspired by the recordings made in Johannesburg, collaborating with both African and American artists. Simon faced controversy for seemingly breaking the cultural boycott imposed by the rest of the world against South Africa because of its policy of apartheid. In addition, some critics viewed Graceland as an exploitive appropriation of their culture. Following its completion, Simon toured alongside South African musicians, combining the music of Graceland and their own music. Despite the controversy, Graceland was a major commercial hit, becoming Simon's most successful studio album to date.

Grateful Dead (50th Anniversary Ed.)- Grateful Dead Grateful Dead (50th Anniversary Ed.)- Grateful Dead

    Features:

The Grateful Dead is the debut album of the Grateful Dead. It was released by Warner Bros. Records in March 1967. The album was primarily recorded at RCA's Studio A, in Los Angeles, in only four days. The band had wanted to record the tracks in their hometown of San Francisco, but no recording studios in the area had modernized equipment at the time. The group picked David Hassinger to produce because he had worked as an engineer on the Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" and Jefferson Airplane's Surrealistic Pillow album (the latter on which Jerry Garcia had guested and suggested the album title). Due to demands by the band's label, Warner Brothers, four of the tracks were edited for length. Phil Lesh comments in his autobiography, "to my ear, the only track that sounds at all like we did at the time is Viola Lee Blues. ...None of us had any experience with performing for recording...the whole process felt a bit rushed." Bill Kreutzmann, in his autobiography, says of the songs, "their recorded versions failed to capture the energy that we had when we performed them live. ...We weren’t that good yet. We were still learning how to be a band."

It features redone versions of "Carolina in My Mind" and "Something in the Way She Moves", both of which had previously been included in Taylor's 1968 debut album. It also includes previously unavailable live version of "Steamroller". The album did not rise higher than #23 on the Billboard albums chart on its original release. However it became a steady seller for many years, and Greatest Hits has sold over 11,000,000 copies certifying it as a platinum album eleven times over, and a diamond album once (for 10 million copies). In August 2012, the album re-entered the Billboard albums chart at #15, which gave the album a new peak.
